Beavers
Our youngest section, we meet on Friday evenings during term time, for a lively hour of fun, friendship, games, and badges! Beavers enjoy a whole range of activities as we explore the world around us. They also have an introduction to traditional scouting skills such as navigation, camping, hiking, first aid and other essential life skills.
We play lots of games to encourage teamwork, as well as set personal challenges. Some of our weekly meetings are held away from our hut, depending on the programme we also arrange visits to fire and lifeboat stations, religious temples and, during the summer term, we like to spend as much time as we can in the local parks.
The younger members are always delighted to receive a badge for the work they complete, there’s something for everyone and we can adapt requirements to suit all abilities and needs. Our leaders encourage Beavers to be independent and challenge themselves, so they grow in confidence.
As part of our programme we also offer activities outside of our weekly meetings and strongly encourage Beavers to take part so they can be awarded the top Chief Scout Award for their section.
Events such as district badge days, science workshops, sleepovers, adventure days, hikes and other opportunities are offered throughout the year. Beavers are encouraged to attended at least one sleepover or camp before moving on to Cubs when they reach eight years old.
Parents are also encouraged to get involved, we have a list of jobs and roles, we hope that parents help at least once a term, it’s very rewarding!
We can accept young people from six years old but it’s advisable to add your child’s name to our joining list early as we do have a waiting time.
