Adult Volunteers

Volunteering- how can I get involved?

2nd Teddington is a busy and growing group, with 50+ children taking part in weekly activities, this means we’re always grateful for help. There are loads of ways you could get involved…

Weekly meetings – join us on a weekly basis, come along to support when you can, or just as a one-off. For example the Beaver leaders may need extra adults if the troop is going out on a hike or day out or it could be as simple as help with their cutting and sticking!

It could be that you have a skill that you could share with the group – some woodwork with the Scouts or a drama workshop with the Cubs – leaders are always looking for new ideas!

Section assistants help the leaders plan and run parts of the weekly meetings, either every week or on alternate weeks. We could all benefit from the help of an assistant or two!

Executive Committee is always looking for new members to help put forward new ideas and liaise with other parents. We meet once every half term and the Committee is made up of parents and leaders with an interest in planning for the group and keeping up to date with future events, Group initiatives and fundraising.

Fundraising – The fundraising committee meets up to twice a term depending on what fundraising and social events are taking place. We always need fun and easy ideas to make some much needed extra money for the group and funding for any international camping trips.  We also value help from other parents in running the events, e.g. help serving food at the campfire or sorting jumble.

Maintenance – We have occasional maintenance days during the year when we ask parents to help us with some cleaning, painting, fixing, gardening and general tidying up – maybe you have a special skill that could keep our hut running smoothly?

Our stores, which hold all our camping equipment, need regular inspection, organising and general sorting out to get the equipment ready for camps. We have a quartermaster who oversees this, but he always welcomes anyone who is happy to help!

Camping – We’re a busy Group and love camping with several camps a year, including a summer camp for Cubs and Scouts, to make this happen we need parents to help! If you don’t fancy camping, then maybe you could help with the shopping or driving the minibus…

Remember all our leaders and committee members are volunteers; we all have busy lives with our families and work; however, we find the time spent helping our Scout Group rewarding and fun.

Anyone who wants to help will be most welcome. We offer support, and training where needed. Volunteers will be required to complete a DBS form (at no cost) for most roles.

We also welcome grandparents, other family members or friends, you don’t have to have a child in our group to get involved.

If you’d like to help – don’t wait to be asked! Talk to your leader now and get involved or contact us

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
