Survival Blankets
Our amazing Scouts at 2nd Teddington spent 5 hours hard at work making 6 survival blankets out of the crisp packets they had been saving.
They cut, washed, dried, and sorted crisp packets. ‘Posher’ packets like ‘Tyrrells’ were too thick and mini cheddars have no reflective lining.
The cleaned packets were then ironed together into rows of 4, and then 11 rows to make a blanket.
Both sides needed to be coated in clear plastic to make them stronger and longer lasting. The plastic sheets we used were all single use plastic such as discarded clothes bags, these also had to be ironed in place.
The survival blankets will be donated to the ‘Crisp packet Project’ who will hand them out, to to provide a little extra warmth, to vulnerable people who find themselves sleeping on the streets .
The fees for the camp (£93) have been donated to our local homeless charity- Spear.
After all their hard work we treated the scouts, they enjoyed pizza and a film before sleeping very soundly in the cardboard camps they made, we didn’t hear a peep from them all night!
